Flores and Komodo discovery
-
With active volcanoes and deadly dragons, the islands of the Komodo National Park are among the most rugged and hostile on the planet. But they also contain stunning tropical scenery, with lush jungle and aquamarine seas. Explore the traditional island tribes of West Flores, and discover the unique wildlife of Rinca island, including monkeys, wild boar, buffalo and, of course, Komodo dragons. A trip to the Gili Lawa Darat offers incredible snorkelling and the chance for a beach barbecue on a genuine tropical island paradise.

Flores and Komodo discovery: DAY 1 – WEST FLORES – MELO VILLAGE
Upon arrival in Labuan Bajo this morning you are picked up by the driver for the short transfer to the boat to drop off the luggage and for enjoying refreshment before the start of your program.
Recommended flight: Garuda Airlines GA 4020 ETD 0615 & ETA 0740. Without morning program also possible: Garuda Airlines GA 4026 ETD 1150 & ETA 1315
You travel with a tour guide and mini bus to the interior of West Flores, taking a winding road uphill to the village of Melo. Here local ‘strongmen’ will perform the whip-dance, typical for West Flores. Armed with a rattan shield and a whip, two men try to hit each other on the back. He who first inflicts a bleeding wound on the back of his opponent is announced the winner.
After this spectacle we drive back to the boat and we cast off around 14.30 pm for our expedition around Komodo National Park, a place where we see crystal clear waters and active volcanoes, deserted islands and fierce dragons.
Lunch is served on board. (NB: all meals for this cruise are served onboard unless otherwise mentioned).
The boat will stop nearby Kalong Island from where we will see the amazing sight of thousands of fruit bats flying in the direction of Flores while in the background the sun sets over this beautiful paradise.
