Walking Slovenia Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Triglav NP

Walking Slovenia is a wonderfully scenic route exploring Slovenia’s history, culture, and the gorgeous views both the Julian Alps and lakes Bled & Bohinj provide walking through tranquil forests, along alpine paths, alongside bubbling brooks and flower-filled meadows. The Julian Alps are home to beautiful crystal-clear waters and colourful alpine meadows, at heights of up to 2,500 metres.

We visit castles and traditional mountain villages along our walk, immersing ourselves in Slovenian culture, and exploring rich historic castles and villages. We start in Jezersko, a beautiful valley surrounded by the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Then walk through Goli Vrh and the Draga Valley to Slovenia’s only nature park, Triglav Nature Park. We have time to explore the most beautiful places in Slovenia, Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj plus Triglav National Park, and have the opportunity to try dairy products of the region, local strudel and much more.

Day 1 – Arrival in Kranj
Arrive by land or by flying to Ljubljana Airport, the capital of Slovenia. There you can take a bus or taxi to Kranj, where your walking holiday will begin. Taxi about aud$25 bus about $6


Jezersko (short bus ride away) is the oldest city in Slovenia population about 40,000 with beautiful old streets and surprises around every corner. Unique is a river canyon in the centre of town! Nestled at the foot of the Julian Alps

Day 2 – Ceska Koca – 8 miles I 13 km
1st days walking in Slovenia we take a local bus from Kranj to Jerersko (3 EUR) as we make our way to Ceska Koca, one of Spodnje’s best-known and oldest mountain shelters, where we can enjoy home-cooked food and the typical strudel, a cake made with apples or quark cheese. On the way back we stop at Shepherds Lake Glacier before arriving back into Jezersko and bus to Kranj

Day 3 – Jezersko to Preddvor – 6 miles I 9 km
Today back on the local bus (EUR 3) to Jezersko as we walk through the glacial valleys in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, located between Slovenia and the Austrian area of Carinthia, a path to enjoy the natural beauty of Slovenia, the path continues through the Jezersko Valley, named by its inhabitants as “the oasis of peace” and famous for its heart-shaped lake. Finishing our walk at Preddvor with a bus to Kranj

Day 4 – Enjoy your day in the Preddvor forests – 10 miles I 16 km
Again bus to Preddvor (EUR 3) before climbing beautiful forests and slopes to St. Jacobs Church, built in 1400. The path continues through the surroundings of Kranj and Hrib Castle, on Črnava Jezero, the perfect place for sports fishing, but we are not stopping to drop a line in the water! Day 5 – Ljublj Pass to Lesce – 9 miles I 14 km
Today you have the option of forwarding your luggage to our next destination. We take but local bus to the start of our walk at Ljublj Pass, a mountain pass located in the limestone Alps between Slovenia and Austria. Before we reach Begunje, we will pass through the Draga Valley, where we stop to explore Kamen Castle and a field where you can try your hand at archery. There is an option to shorten todays walk by around 4km by taking the local bus into town.

Day 6 – Begunje to Bled – 7 miles I 11 km
Today we walk through the Radovna Valley, part of the Julian Valleys. The path will follow a dreamy landscape around Lake Bled, famous for its turquoise-coloured water, its castle and its island, where the Church of the Assumption is located. Once in Bled, we have the option to take a balloon trip, a unique way to have beautiful views of this city; or tour Triglav National Park, where you can kayak or ride on horseback, lots of optional activities here.

Day 7 – Bled
After a lazy breakfast, we get to enjoy this beautiful lake in all its gorgeous colours. Today is explore Lake Bled day! Wander around town admiring the historic buildings or take a cruise out the the church on Lake Bled & many more activities available

Day 8 – Beld to Bohinj – 8 miles I 13 km
Today is a day with wonderful views from the alpine peaks and walk alongside beautiful lakes, streams, fauna and flora of Triglav National Park, which stretches across the eastern part of the Julian Alps our walk ends at Lake Bohinj, one of Slovenia’s most beautiful natural environments.

Day 9 – Lake Bohinj

Today is explore Lake Bohinj day plus enjoy the Aquatic park with heated pools, climbing wall, sauna and much more. Wonderful walks around the lake plus many activities to choose from!

Sadly today is departure day, after a hearty breakfast check out of our hotel for your onward journey.

Luggage transfers are optional and will be arranged as a group transfer closer the time.

Transfers from Ljubljana Airport airport by public bus are about 30 minutes travel time and approximately EUR3 per way, taxis about 15 min and EUR16. Bus transport whilst on the walking journey is about EUR3 per way. Bus from Bohinj to Ljubljana Airport is about 2 hours and EUR 6 per way, taxi about AUD $100 45 minutes and can be shared with others, arranged whilst in Bohinj.
